National Racehorse Week is a nationwide annual celebration of the racehorse, this year it takes place between 9th-17th September. It provides a great experience to see first-hand love, care, and attention that goes into looking after them.
Last year was a hugely successful week that featured 138 separate events with over 100 yards, 8 studs and 7 aftercare, retaining & rehoming centres taking part.
Sam Allwood Racing will once again be hosting a yard visit on Sunday 10th September which is now fully booked, but you can join the waiting list here. Sam and his team will showcase their training facilities and how they fully prepare their horses for the racecourse, by hosting a yard or stable tour, Q&A section, and the guests will get to meet the racehorses.
If you are visiting Sam Allwood Racing for National Racehorse Week, here are some of the things you’ll likely experience:
Daily Fitness Training
Fitness is imperative in preparing the racehorse for the track and ensuring they are in the best of health. During your visit to Sam Allwood Racing, you may get the chance to see the horses on the gallops, taking a restorative swim, warm up/down on the horse walker, or even a session on an equestrian treadmill.
Watch Schooling
Racehorses regularly need to practice all the skills they need on the racecourse, you may get to see some horses schooling over jumps, or working on different surfaces/environments. These are an important part of a racehorse training routine, helping the horse adjust to different situations at the racecourse.
Race Ready
A chance to go behind the scenes of what it takes to get a horse and jockey safely to the starting line on race day, Sam’s dedicated staff will ensure vet checks are done and that each horse receives a special set of shoes + their long packing list.
